Current medical practice in America is all about putting people on medicine for manifestations of chronic disease and not treating the underlying cause.
Many chronic diseases (heart disease, cancers, arthritis, diabetes, pain, neurologic disease) are the result of inflammation. For instance, it is now well-known that cholesterol levels are not really as predictive of heart disease as something called C-reactive protein – a biomarker of inflammation. It is also well-known that aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can decrease one’s risk of heart disease, stroke, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Modern medicine’s usual way of handling such inflammatory conditions is to treat the symptoms with drugs, which can have significant adverse effects on one’s body. The Chinese and Japanese actually are quite amused at our medical practices, primarily because they typically treat the underlying cause of disease first. It is noteworthy that on average the Chinese and Japanese live longer than American’s in spite of the “greatest healthcare system in the world” which we believe we have in the U.S.
Perhaps there is a “miracle” treatment already available to us – one that our grandmothers tried to get us to take on a daily basis. Fish oil has been touted for many years as beneficial for a number of ailments and indeed may well be responsible for man having the superior intellect of all animal species. Long-chain Omega-3 fatty acid is the ingredient in fish oil, which is responsible for its benefit to our well-being.
At Charleston HealthSpan Institute, our physicians believe in taking high-dose pharmaceutical-grade fish oil. We have access to fish oil (go to our products page for access) which has been shown in outside analyses to be the purest available anywhere. We are always on the lookout for supplements, which are better from a quality and economic standpoint, and alert our patients to the benefit of our research.
